Meet the Virginia Tech Chapter's First Members

Elea-Maria Abisamra / President, Official Founder & Current Tutor

Hello! I am a Junior at Virginia Tech working towards a degree in Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience. I am also double minoring in Creative Writing and International Studies. Outside of school, I love the outdoors and going on adventures. I am also an author, columnist, a songwriter, and love to read. Most of all, I am a dreamer with the determination to fulfill my goals.

Sam Tully / Vice President, Founding Member & Current Tutor

I’m Sam and I’m a Junior, double-majoring in Criminology and Sociology with a minor in Creative Writing. I’m pumped to be Vice President this semester! I’ve been writing since I was eight, and I regularly find myself in love with fictional characters from books (I’m not sorry). In my free time I like to sing, do makeup, annoy my best friends, waste money on rings, and read tarot cards.

Nate Birmingham / Treasurer, Founding Member & Previous Tutor

Hey! My name is Nate, and I'm a Junior studying Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Technology at Virginia Tech. I enjoy playing basketball and going to the gym every day. I'm really excited to be part of this club, and I look forward to the big impact we'll make!

Phoenix Smith / Founding Member & Previous Tutor

My name is Phoenix Smith, and I am a third-year in communications. I plan to pursue a law degree after finishing my bachelor's degree. Currently, I am the Chief Executive Officer of the Innovate living-learning community at Virginia Tech. Outside of that role, I sing in an acapella group called TechNotes, and I also love to play golf on the weekends with my dad. In addition, I am an adventurer at heart, so I love to hike, rock climb, bike, and just be outdoors. My motto has been to seek discomfort, and I intend to get out of my comfort zone with this organization.

Emma Stern / Founding Member & Previous Tuto

Hello all, my name is Emma Stern. I’m majoring in clinical neuroscience here at Virginia Tech and currently am a Junior. I’m a member of Innovate and a peer-mentor in the College of Science. Some of my interests include life sciences like medicine and biology; I also enjoy PC games and vintage cassette tapes. One reason why I was eager to join this club is my love for poetry and reading as a whole!

Lane Robertson / Founding Member & Previous Tutor

My name is Lane Robertson. I am a Junior studying International Relations and Spanish at Virginia Tech. I love to roller skate, listen to music, read books, and 'photosynthesize' in the sun. My favorite book is The Stranger in the Lifeboat by Mitch Albom.
